Creating an Image with a Transparent Background in Photoshop

In yesterday’s post we showed you how to create a cool effect using text as an image in ProShow. A few of you had questions about how to create a transparent .png image in Photoshop. This is easy to do and once you know how you’ll be able to create tons of cool transparent image files to use in your ProShow slideshows.

Below are the steps, so follow along!

  1. Open Photoshop and create a new file. The most important part of this step is to make sure you have the background contents set to ‘Transparent’. This will leave the background of your image transparent.

Deconstructing the Demo Part 2: Using Text as Images in ProShow Producer

Let’s talk about text. It’s common to assume that the only function text serves in a slideshow is the same as in a book —just some words strung together in different ways to transmit a message. For many people, text is purely for saying what you need to say in written form, and the rest of its potential is completely ignored. But what a waste!

Text (or type, as the design world calls it) as a visual element can be used in so many creative ways. If you’ve watched the ProShow Producer 5 demo, you may have noticed it features several rather unconventional uses of text. Some of these instances involve the use of text as images. That’s what we’re going to focus on for today’s installment of the Deconstructing the Demo series. (see part 1 here >)

SXSW Award Winner Teaches Austin Adults How to Digitize their Legacy

When Roberta Przybylski retired at 55, she never thought she’d teach adults, but after working as an educator, a technical writer and teaching herself how to use the computer, it seemed like a natural fit. She began volunteering at the Austin Computer Learning Center, a non-profit and part of the Austin Groups for the Elderly where for the last 12 years she’s taught hundreds of adults how to use their computer. In 2005, she was introduced to Photodex’s ProShow Gold for creating video slideshows and immediately knew it would benefit her students.

Capture the Colors of the World with your iPhone

I recently came across a really cool new app called The Color Picker. It allows you to select a specific color from a photo and apply it to your design, photography or slideshow projects.

All you do is snap a photo of a unique or interesting scene with your phone, move around on the image to select a color and it will display the current color code (either HSB, RGB or HEX). Copy that info and use it for your digital design, photography or ProShow projects.

On an Android device? Check out the Image Color Picker app for Android. It works almost exactly the same way and allows you to take a color inspiration from a photo in your library.

Both ProShow Gold and ProShow Producer support HEX and RGB color codes, so just snap a photo, grab the color code and start designing! Remember, ProShow allows you to add a custom color code for solid color layers, backgrounds, captions, outlines, colorizing and more.
